It's been a long time coming but PART I of our concept album is FINALLY arriving to a streaming platform near you! By the time you are reading this, it SHOULD be up on Spotify, Apple Music, Pandora, etc. We are waiting on confirmation from the online distributor so as soon as I know, I'll post an update here! The important take away here is that regardless of what platform you subscribe to, the album should be available to you to check out beginning to end.
Currently, Michael and I are working hard on re-working the show and plan on doing some performances/readings/workshop in 2020 so keep on the lookout for that! Regardless of what ultimately becomes of our show, these songs truly encapsulate the energy, direction, and heart of the show.
If you are already too excited and can't wait any longer, I won't blame you if you decide to stop reading this and go find the album and start listening. BUT, if you are intrigued by the fact that this is ONLY part I or would like to know more about this crazy process, please read on and I'll try my best to shed some light.
You see, we originally were going to release everything at once, however, after much debate, we agreed it would be better to split the album. This is due to a combination of reasons. And, for the sake of transparency and good faith, I would like to break down WHY this is happening:
1.) First of all, producing, mixing, and mastering an album is very time consuming and expensive process. Since we are completely self financing this project, it has been a challenge finding time and money to finish the entire thing. Ultimately, the album is a FULL HOUR of original music, lyrics, and libretto. SO, in efforts to get the album out to YOU as quickly as possible, doing the release this way gets the content out in the most efficient and expedient manner. This let's us work on the other tracks that need some more work with a bit more TLC and not rush out a product we won't be proud of. Big shout out to CHRIS GOLD for being the most incredible audio/mixing/mastering engineer EVER and working hard to help get this puppy ready for your ears.
2.) Because the content is ultimately AN HOUR long, we thought it might be best experienced in 30 minute intervals. With how crazy and busy everyone in the world seems to be these days, we thought it would be convenient for folks to enjoy the album in two substantial yet manageable parts. Sure, some of you might be like, "Hey, I LOVE long content and would LOVE a full ONE HOUR version!" Well, you'll get your wish, but for now, you get cool content WAY earlier than if we waited to release everything at once.
3.) No one knows who we are! Let's be real, we are the "new kids on the block" when it comes to music and musical theatre. Regardless of how proud we are of our work, if no one listens to it, we would be devastated. If we released the entire album and people missed the release because, you know, lives and responsibilities are thing, we would risk all of this work being for nothing. So, if we stagger the release, it gives time for people to check it out, like it, share it, and then when part II is ready to release, there will already be an audience (hopefully!) eager and ready for more!
4.) Finally, and most importantly, this is actually helping restructure the listening experience. In other words, the best and most fun aspect of a concept album is being able to listen to it all in one sitting. By breaking it up, I was able to rethink and restructure the way the tracks will be experienced. It may not seem that important but, once I decided on the new two-part order, I couldn't be more excited. And, as stated before, once part II is out, I may reorder the tracks YET AGAIN if you want to listen to ALL of the content at once. All in all, I think this is pretty cool and you'll just have to take my word for it ᕙ(`▿´)ᕗ
ANYWAY, I can't tell you how excited we are to be sharing this crazy adventure with all of you. There are SOOO many humans that did so much for us this past year and a half trying to bring this show and album to life. From the incredible performers, to the wonderful creative team, to the people who simply wish us well and ask us about what we are working on every now and again. WE THANK YOU AND LOVE YOU AND THIS WORK IS ULTIMATELY FOR YOU! Check out the credits below if you'd like to know who was involved in doing what exactly.
I hope that you enjoy checking out our attempt to create something NEW AND ORIGINAL in a world that is filled with re-hashes, remakes, and adaptations. PLEASE be on the lookout for how you can SUPPORT US further in the coming weeks/months and STAY TUNED for more information on PART II!
May the high winds of fortune be forever in your favor!
With Love,
Gonzalo & Michael
